Bean likes to play with other kids in the neighborhood, no matter older or younger. She loves to have fun! Bean also likes to play tricks on her older sister, who's at that age that she sees Bean as nothing more than a brat. Her mother suggests she meet and play with the young girl across the street - Ivy. But Bean is not willing to be friends with Ivy, so always seems to be quiet and reading and wearing dresses than going out and having fun.

Ivy's mother wishes Ivy would go out and have fun with the neighborhood kids than spending all the time by herself. She suggests she meet and play with the young girl across the street - Bean. But Ivy is not willing to be friends with such a loud, obnoxious girl.

One day, Ivy is sitting outside, reading, when Bean decides to hide in a bush and play a trick on her older sister. Seeing Ivy dressed in her robe, and holding a stick, she thinks maybe she can play a trick on Ivy as well, and begins to pretend to be a ghost. However, her trick on her sister backfires, and as she runs to find a place to hide, not wanting to get in trouble with her mom, Ivy invites her into her backyard to hide.
A fun adventure for two girls how had no intentions of being friends! Parents will want to laugh right along with their kids! Although both Ivy and Bean never wanted to be friends, they bonded and banded together quickly, and both enjoyed conjuring up a plan to get back at Bean's sister. My daughter (7) loved the part of Ivy becoming a witch. My son (6) absolutely loved the worms, and both hooted when Bean's sister fell into the hole they dug. While both of my children know they'd never get away with a stunt like that, they thought the story was funny and loved how the girls became friends.

And neither can wait to read book #2!

The Photoshop Elements 8 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)

NEW! The Photoshop Elements 8 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) with Free shipping

Effect::: This book (for Windows and Mac) breaks new ground by doing something for digital photographers that’s never been done before—it cuts through the bull and shows you exactly “how to do it.” It’s not a bunch of theory; it doesn’t challenge you to come up with your own settings or figure things out on your own. Instead, it does something that virtually no other Elements book has ever done—it tells you flat-out which settings to use, when to use them, and why. If you’re looking for one of those “tell-me-everything-about-the-Unsharp-Maskfilter” books, this isn’t it. You can grab any other Elements book on the shelf, because they all do that. Instead, this book gives you the inside tips and tricks of the trade for organizing, correcting, editing, sharpening, retouching, and presenting your photos like a pro. You’ll be absolutely amazed at how easy and effective these techniques are—once you know the secrets.

You’ll learn:
  • The real secrets of how the pros retouch portraits
  • How to color correct any photo without breaking a sweat (you’ll be amazed at how they do it!)
  • How to use Camera Raw for processing not only RAW photos, but JPEGs and TIFFs, too! (And you’ll learn why so many pros like it best— because it’s faster and easier)
  • The sharpening techniques the pros really use (there’s an entire chapter just on this!)
  • How to deal with common digital camera image problems, including removing noise and avoiding halos
  • The most requested photographic special effects,  and much more!
The Book's Secret Weapon
Although Elements 8 offers some digital photography features that Photoshop CS4 doesn’t offer, there are plenty of features that Photoshop CS4 has that Elements 8 still doesn’t have (things like paths, Channel Mixer, etc.). But in this book, you’ll learn some slick workarounds, cheats, and some fairly ingenious ways to replicate many of those Photoshop features from right within Elements. Plus, since this book is designed for photographers, it doesn’t waste your time talking about how to frame a shot, setting your exposure, etc., and there’s no talk about which camera or printer to buy. It’s all Elements, step-by-step, cover-to-cover, in the only book of its kind!
User friendly.

I debated between this book and "The Missing Manual." I ended up first purchasing the The Missing Manual. The difference is the The Missing Manual goes into more depth. Almost an informational, overwhelming, (I'll never be able to do this) overload. Scott's book is a cookbook...step-by-step instructions of the most popular applications. I actually have a library copy of Scott's book and am now going to go ahead and buy it. I agree with the posts here...if you are new to Elements and/or have not studied the software application at all - then this book could possibly be a tad difficult to understand?

With that, I found The Missing Manual was more difficult to apply the applications. With Scott's book I fairly easily was able to manipulate my pictures. Of course, I had the text book reading of the Missing Manual and a little bit of putzing under my belt too.

My best advise would be if you can afford 2 books to purchase... get Scott's book and then another in depth book to further "study." Connect the dots...so to speak.

Why 4 stars? Well...5 stars would be perfect and I don't feel this book was perfect, all around. It is a GREAT book and I really like Scott Kelby's talent and work. Definately a must have for your personal library.

I decided to read this book to my girls because they tend to be forgetful. It's a cute story showing a kid (actually a little critter) who remembers to do some things, but forgets to do other things. I like how the story shows a young child doing chores around the house. Sometimes my girls don't want to help out the family, and this book shows that there are children who have jobs just like them. I also like how the mother expresses a variety of emotions when reminding her child what he needs to do. At times it is clear that she is disappointed, but at other times she is very gracious and encouraging to her child. The story has a nice ending when the boy expresses that he never forgets to have his mom read him a bedtime story and give her a goodnight kiss. My only complaint is that the father has an almost nonexistent role in the family. The only time he is introduced in the story is when he comes home from work; he is sitting down waiting for the newspaper. Way to interact with the family dad! Perhaps the other Little Critter books do a better job showing dad in a more positive light.

Nothing new to say about the quality of the books or its edition, which have quite good appearance, with beautiful covers and "illustrations".

About this box, the "bad" thing is that is made of folded cardboard which means that it has some bad edges an can even be unfolded. It also seems risky to lift it by the handles, because it is a lot of weight for that not-so-thick cardboard. The locker is both quite a good idea, but slightly hard to close when the box is full.

EXTRAS. If you already have the books, DON'T buy this, because it has no extras, except for a few stickers for the box, nothing interesting.

My piece of advise: Don't buy this for the box but for the books

I read this for my Later Middle Ages history course, and I must admit that I didn't care for it. The book as other reviewers have said, is written over 20 years in hindsight, and Margery herself must have been an insufferable person whether her experience was true or not. It seemed to me that she brought most of her suffering upon herself and later justified it with her visions...but whether I agree with her experience is really not the point.

As the first known English autobiography, and as an insight to one of the forms that faith took in the Middle Ages (not to mention being from the female perspective) this book is invaluable. But had it not been for class I wouldn't have suffered through the 50 pages of weeping and rambling that I did (we didn't even have to read the whole thing!). Though she was a pilgrim to many holy sites, she notates almost nothing of her external experiences in Jeruselam and Rome - so I don't think that it would be particularly useful to those interested in general history.

My 11 year old daughter had been pestering me for months to read Hunger Games. Since most of her books are young adult magical fantasies I resisted. When I finally picked it up I couldn't put it down.

The marks of a good book in my mind are: does it make you think? Do the characters seem like real people? Would you read it again? Can you put it down to eat? The Hunger Games struck me hard on all of these points.

Katniss seems like a real heroine. She is a survivor, she's had to be. This has left her scarred and somewhat withdrawn emotionally. She doesn't really trust anyone but her sister Prim and her hunting partner Gale. At 16 she is still completely oblivious to romance but is sure that she will never get married nor have children that may be forced to participate in the games. Her education is lacking, which explains much of the grammar as the book is written completely in first person from her point of view. This book is as much a coming out story for Katniss as anything else.

I read all three at one go and I have a desire for more that won't be satisfied. Read Hunger Games, as unless you are unusual in your tastes you will love it, and I am 47.

My son is 2 1/2 and my step daughter is 6 and they both love these books! There are a few in the series - I love dino's, I love the farm, I love trucks, and this one, I love animals. All of them are great! I bought 'I love trucks' and loved it so much, that I bought all the rest. The layout and presentation of the books are very unique, and easily keep a young child's attention. The stickers are great, and survive through multiple re-stickings. Would recommend this series, and all of the Priddy books to any parent!

Rainbow fish is a great book for young kids. It has colorful, sparkly images, and a simple story line about sharing. This is a great book for young kids to learn the importance of sharing what they have with others, and that what's on the outside doesn't matter nearly as much as what they have on the inside. I've read many reviews about how the fish is giving away his originality, which left those readers believing that this is a negative message to send to kids. In the ultimate age of the egocentric youth and me-me-me-the-world-revolves-around-me, it's okay to send to message to kids at a young age that giving a part of themselves to make others happy can be a good thing. And giving up the "pretty" part of themselves may make them happier in the end, as long as they maintain their integrity and create relationships with those around them.
